Linda Pentz Gunter and Eric Wolfe speak in conversation on Sunday, October 11th at 7 pm. Trump is pushing for nuclear power expansion, to enrich himself and his billionaire tech friends. But does anyone else really benefit? In No To Nuclear, Pentz Gunter moves beyond the science and statistics, centering the stories of the Nuclear Age around the inherent colonialism and corruption of the nuclear industry and the Indigenous communities who have been preyed upon for profit and left to pay a terrible price.  She takes us to Native American and First Nations communities, to the nomadic Tuareg of Niger and Aboriginal lands in Australia, where Black, Brown and Indigenous communities, far from the countries who profit, have been forced to mine the uranium that fuels the nuclear industry. She finds similar stories where atomic bombs have been tested, in the Marshall Islands and French Polynesia. And she reminds us that animals, who we disregard so cruelly, are harmed, too. Finally, the book urges us to rediscover the beauty and the miracle that is Planet Earth and to embrace justice first, if we are to have a chance to prevent the worst of the climate crisis and avoid nuclear war.

Linda Pentz Gunter is the founder and executive director of the US-based non-profit Beyond Nuclear. She also created and writes for her organization's news platform, Beyond Nuclear International. A former full-time journalist, she continues to contribute feature stories to the Morning Star (UK) and Ralph Nader's Capitol Hill Citizen.

Eric Wolfe has been active in peace, environment, and labor issues for 60 years. He helped organize the Clamshell Alliance in 1976 to oppose construction of the Seabrook reactors. Through his puppet show, Burnt Toast: Trouble in the Nation’s Breadbasket, he advocated for non-violent direct action against nuclear power in 20 states, including California. Acres of Clams, his feature-length documentary about the Clamshell Alliance, was released in 2024. Eric has lived in San Francisco since 1988 with his wife, science writer Susan Freinkel.
