Speaking Axolotl our monthly Latinx/Chicanx reading series happens the third Thursday of each month. Come hear Decolonized Verses, Spanglish Poesia, Bilingual chismes y Latinx Spoken Word. This month we are over la luna excited to have as our features this month David Calderon and zooming in all the way from Agua Prieta, Mexico Aziz Cordova.
David Calderon "El Venadito" is a poet, playwright, performer, and educator from Ichcanziho, Yucatan, Mexico. "El Venadito" immigrated to live in crowded housing in pinche Marin County back in 2008. Since then, "El Venadito" has faced la pinche opresión gringa. They've lived through domestic violence, gang violence, police violence, every violence designed to keep an Indio from their land. "El Venadito" provides their blessings on the West Contra Costa District as a soccer coach, and poetry instructor. They also teach in Marin Shakespeare Company for their own program called "(In)Visible Voices." Lastly, "El Venadito" is an education and writing consultant for three educational nonprofit organizations in the bay. You can always find them in nature taking naps.
