Speaking Axolotl La Area Bahia’s long running monthly Latinx reading series happens the third Thursday of each month. Come gather and hear Decolonized Verses, Spanglish Poesia,, Latinx Spoken Word and neighborhood chisme. Our very chingon and special features this month are Angelica Segura-Brandi and Ray Marenco-Quintana.

Angelica Segura-Brandi is a Chicana/Yaqui multimedia Artist, Poet, Singer and DJ Member of Chulita Vinyl Club. Born in Hawaii and raised in the Mission District, and an alumni of San Francisco State University with a bachelor's in Creative Writing and American Indian Studies. She applies her experience of love, ancestral knowledge, spirit and environmental justice to her writing.

Ray Marenco-Quintana is a spoken word poet born in Redwood City , now residing in Oakland, California. He considers himself a Freebase Poet due to his family owning and running the label Freebase Records and Freebase Studios. The term was coined as their name due to providing people with Dope music and words that they can vibe to. Also referred to as “Random”, this poet began his writing journey in the 5th grade after discovering Tupacs Poetry book, “The Rose That Grew from Concrete”. The book was stolen from the schools library and he never looked back!
