!Txutxo Perez Art Opening!

  • 3036 24th Street San Francisco, CA 94110 USA (map)

!Join us in our galeria to celebrate the art opening of the one and only Txutxo Perez!

Txutxo Pérez has been a visual artist, printmaker and painter for the last 35 years. He uses oil and water-based materials, different printmaking processes, and gilding. Txutxo’s aesthetics are the result of his growing up in a popular neighborhood in Mexico City, where punk, Surrealism, and Dada walked hand in hand. This vision originated on street life, blending gilding--an old technique introduced in Mexico by the Spaniards and used to show dominance and spiritual alienation—with current events.

Before the artist was even able to talk, he was exposed to his own father’s taste for Asian Art and the knowledge of gilding techniques. As an immigrant who carries a full cultural baggage, Txutxo’s visual expression was further enrichened with his arrival in the cosmopolitan SF.

Unlike the gilded church altars and religious figures that were part of his father’s trade, the golden surfaces in Txuto’s art become backgrounds to surreal images, where characters display emotions, vices, and virtues. These human components remove any sacred reference, making them mundane. These are ludic, open spaces where diverse ethnic roots, cultural symbols, and everyday stories collide, as often happens in big cities.
