An beautiful evening of poetry and conversation with poets Achy Obejas, Juliana Spahr, and Truong Tran.
Truong Tran is the author of 6 previous collections of poetry, a children’s book, and an artist monograph. He is the recipient of The Fund For Poetry Grant, The California Arts Council Grant, and numerous San Francisco Arts Commission Grants. Of his latest efforts, Book of The Other, winner of CLMP’s Firecracker Prize in poetry and the American Book Award, Truong says it is an endeavor that's taken fifteen years of living, enduring, and writing. It is not a book I wanted to write. It is a book I had to write.
Juliana Spahr's most recent book of poems is That Winter the Wolf Came. Ben Lerner in The New Yorker listed the book as one of the best books in 2015, adding that it was “probably the book of poetry I’ve returned to the most.” Stephanie Burt in the New York Times wrote about how the book’s poems “cross national borders, link species, and generate hope.” Her most recent scholarly book is Du Bois’s Telegram.
Achy Obejas is the author of Boomerang/Bumerán, a gender-free collection of poems in English and Spanish. Her other books include The Tower of the Antilles, which was a PEN/Faulkner finalist; Days of Awe, an LA Times Best Book of the Year; and the critically acclaimed chapbook This is What Happened in our Other Lives.
