"The True Poetry Of a Mixed Blood Pueblo Abroad" with Lee Francis

  • 3036 24th Street San Francisco, CA 94110 USA (map)

Familia join us in our galeria tonight for a very special visit and poetry reading with the one and only Lee Francis

Lee Francis 4 (aka Dr. IndigiNerd) is a poet, entrepreneur and storyteller who has had the good fortune to spend his career creating opportunities for new stories and new adventures for Native and Indigenous Peoples throughout the United States. His family is from the Pueblo of Laguna (about 50 miles west of Albuquerque New Mexico), though he currently resides on Ocaneechee land in North Carolina.

He is a National Poetry Slam Champion with the 2008 LoboSlam Team, a member of the 2007 ABQSlams Team, and the coach of the 2008 ABQSlams Team.

He has published everything from academics to comic books to poetry in numerous places though he is most proud of his first short story that he wrote at age 5 about a purple cow. He is an award winning storyteller, playwright and editor and has published three chapbooks: Love and Lonely Part One (2005), Eulogy for the Moon (2012), and A Story of Growing (2016).

He believes that the art of storytelling (and poetry) is fundamentally about relationships and how we engage one another through heart and voice. As Dylan Thomas wrote, Time held me green and dying, though I sang in my chains like the sea. Lee 4 hopes to continue singing at the top of his voice for many years to come.
