Speaking Axolotl La Area Bahia’s long running monthly Latinx reading series happens the third Thursday of each month. Come gather and hear Decolonized Verses, Spanglish Poesia,, Latinx Spoken Word and neighborhood chisme. Our very chingon and special features this month are Jozer Guerrero and Xochiquetzal Candelaria

Jose “Jozer” Guerrero is a poet, musician, actor, MC/Motivational speaker and educator. His work has been featured on HBO, Unavision, PBS, American Theatre Magazine, Button POetry and TED Talk. Guerrero is also a three time Individual World Poetry Slam finalist, 2 time Brave New Voices Finalist, and 2 time National Poetry finalist. He is a member of the of the award wining Chicano funk band Los Mocochetes and Denver’s premier Slam Poetry team Slam Nuba. He has dedicated his entire career to creating critical art and music that spealks on the issue our communities face, seeking to inspire, inform, and mobilize the community with edgy lyrics, mesmerizing beats, and a powerful performance.

Xochiquetzal Candelaria is an American poet from San Juan Bautista, California. Her work has been showcased in The New England Review and The Nation and she has also received multiple fellowships through the National Endowment for the Arts as well as other organizations. Her first book of poems “Empire” was published by University of Arizona Press in 2011. Her new book of poems “Show Me The Bells’ was published this year by Tia Chucha’s Press.
