Presented by David Boyce this month’s lecture is titled “Sonny Rollins in the 1960s: Alfie, Freedom and the greatest improviser of all time.”

A look at Sonny Rollins and his efforts to absorb the innovations of free jazz and meld the the jazz tradition featuring the music of his soundtrack for the classic movie Alfie, Sonny meets Hawk (a collaboration with his first saxophone idol, Coleman Hawkins), Our man in Jazz(his collaboration with don cherry, Billy Higgins and Henry Grimes) and a brilliant live set from Copenhagen, 1965.
