Join the Molcajete poets on September 17th from 7PM-9:00PM for an open mic night of poetry and rhyme to celebrate Yen La Poeta's birthday! Featured poets and artists will perform throughout the night for a fun and dynamic evening of poetry, spoken word, and rhyme! Featuring Martha Moreno, MC PAUZE, Bryan Chavez Castro, and Rebeca Abidaíl Flores.
Martha Moreno is a Sacramento-based poet who writes about love, relationships, and the emotions that come with them. She’s been writing poetry for a while but has never shared her work publicly, making this her first time putting her words out there.
MC Pauze is an Emcee, Songwriter, & Percussionist born & raised in the Mission District of San Francisco, CA. As a member of Justin’s Case, The Watershed, and Old Soul Kollective, he uses his music as a platform to heal, communicate, and shine light on injustices occurring in his community and beyond. Pauze has dedicated his life to the Hip-Hop movement because of its ability to uplift and the tools it provides for critical thinking, about society and the role of the people within it. He proudly claims the mantle of “Conscious Hip-Hop Artist” and purposefully creates music with a message of justice, resistance, and love.
Bryan Chavez Castro is a poet, writer, and translator from El Salvador’s rural east. He was Theresa Hak Kyung Cha Fellow at UC Berkeley, where he studied comparative literature. His poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Antiphony, Huizache, Acentos Review, and elsewhere. His translations appear in The Offing. He now lives in Oakland, CA.
Rebeca Abidaíl Flores is a Mexican and Salvadoran artist from Fresno, CA. She connects working-class labor to joy. In her artistic practice, she creates objects rooted in labor—like paletas, mangüeras, and camisas—to reimagine them as interactive pieces of play. Her creative fellowships include the Latinx Teaching Artist Fellow at Root Division, Bloomberg Tech Fellow with Acción Latina, and a Teaching Artist at the University of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. She has been an artist in residence at The Ruby, Story Knife in Alaska, Gracia Residency in Guatemala, and the and the Laureate Lab Visual Wordist Studio with Juan Felipe Herrera.
