Speaking Axolotl La Area Bahia’s long running monthly Latinx reading series happens the third Thursday of each month. Come gather and hear Decolonized Verses, Spanglish Poesia, Bilingual Chismes y Latinx Spoken Word.

!This month we are over la luna excited to have as our features the poet laureate of the 818 soledad con carne and the winner of the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize Maria Esquinca!

BIOS;

soledad con carne is a casually queer, intergalactic Oakland/Ohlone-based chicanx punk poet, working/poor multiple high school drop-out, bookstore lackey, poet laureate of the San Fernando Valley, and blatant smoker sharing-trauma-with-their-mother.

María Esquinca is a writer and producer. Her poetry has appeared in Michigan Quarterly Review, Waxwing, The Florida Review, Glass: A Journal of Poetry, Cream City Review, and others. Her book reviews and interviews have appeared in Adroit Journal and ANMLY. A fronteriza, she was born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México and grew up in El Paso, Texas. She’s currently based in Oakland, CA. Find her on Twitter and on her website. This year Maria was the inaugrual winner of the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize.
