!Big Mission LOVE y locura will abound for real!
Artist Josué Rojas is a practicing visual creator and an educator who relishes in learning and teaching the articulation of a potent human language – by using art as a response and celebration, not simply to life's inequities but to its bounty as well.
"I am a Salvadoran-born American Citizen, a Californian, a teacher. My work is informed by mybicultural and bilingual experience. Part of a continuum, my work and personal creative visioncontribute to a visual heritage of creative critical consciousness."Rojas’ practice centers the community process, often interviewing residents, gathering investigations, feedback and real-life--narratives that tell the intersectional story of the place. Since embarking as a full time independent artist in early 2021, Rojas has made ambitious, dynamic and large public works and exhibitions his focus.A socially committed visual artist, Rojas' creative vision centers a public and studio practice that mixes visual language(s) + critical consciousness. The work is informed by a bicultural and bilingual experience as well as by 20 +years of arts-leadership in the Bay Area, with public art & media. "I feel an artist should serve, not only as the ‘conscience of their era’ but also as a positive conduit, infusing values of ‘right relationships’ into the public imagination."
Created in and tailor made for the gallery at Medicine for Nightmares bookstore,
Bridge over Trouble : New Works! is a celebration, a rhapsody of visual experience in which the artist uses recognizable imagery; cartoons, comics, sports logos, –– and breaks their traditional settings, remixing them alongside emojis, Central American folkloric patterns, abstraction and elements of graffiti, a playful dance in acrylic, spray paint and drawing, where fine art meets the streets.
