Margaret M. Power will read and discuss her new book “Solidarity Across The Americas.” Margaret’s book gives us a new history of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party (PNPR) and shows how it built a broad solidarity for Puerto Rican independence with movements across the Americas. From its founding in 1922 through its military actions of the 1950s and beyond, it built a transnational network which included individuals, parties, organizations, and governments throughout the hemisphere.
Margaret Power is a scholar and activist. She is Professor of History emerita from the Illinois Institute of Technology; Co-chair of Historians for Peace and Democracy; and President of the Board of Directors of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, Chicago.
