Participant Bios:
soledad con carne (he/they) is known as the poet laureate of the San Fernando Valley. They are a first generation Chicanx poet, mixed media artist, and co-editor of the literary journal Acid Verse. Originally from the heart of the Valley, soledad now represents the 818 on Ohlone Chochenyo land in the Bay Area. Their poetry covers topics like mental illness, taking the bus, punk activities, and loneliness all while exploring their place in the San Fernando Valley and now Oakland.
Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo is a poet, visual artist, and facilitator. Her work is informed by her Indigenous ancestry, Mesoamerican philosophy, Mexika & Mixtec art, Mexican culture, Raza history, and her experiences as an Indigenous Mexican Chicana woman. Elizabeth's artwork has been exhibited nationally and her poetry is published in anthologies and journals including, Nos pasamos de la raya/We Crossed the Line, Azahares, Harvard’s PALABRITAS, Caesura, Acid Verse Literary Journal, Red Wheelbarrow, and Label Me Latina/o, and Somos en escrito. Elizabeth earned a BFA in Art (Pictorial Art) and a BA in French from San José State University. She served as 2021 Creative Ambassador of the San José Office of Cultural Affairs and facilitates generative poetry workshops for organizations and universities. She is a Board Member of Poetry Center San José, a reader for the Red Wheelbarrow Poetry Prize, and founder of La Raíz Magazine. www.ejmontelongo.com/poetry
Tauri graduated with an MFA from Cal State University San Bernardino and is the editor in chief of Acid Verse Literary Journal published by Los Angeles Poet Society Press. Her poems are love songs to East LA where she spent most of her childhood doing all kinds of travesuras. Now in the redwood forest of Northern CA, Tuari is working in forest ecology and spends time studying astrology, tarot, and loves dancing and EDM music. You will most likely find her skateboarding, kissing cats, and smelling flowers.
